Edge Of Shetland
Wild places. Quiet moments. Seen from the edge of the North.
David Albutt is a photographer based in Shetland, where land, sea, and sky are never still for long. After first visiting the islands in 1999, David finally made the move from Ireland to Shetland in 2022, drawn back time and again by the light, the weather, and the raw honesty of the landscape.
Photography is more than documentation—it’s a way of seeing. David’s passion lies in finding ways to show the viewer how he experiences the world, translating atmosphere, movement, and stillness into images that invite you to slow down and look a little longer.
Working across a range of tools—from drones and action cameras to traditional stills—his go-to camera remains the Canon 5D Mark III. While newer cameras come and go, this one has a character and depth that continues to suit his style and approach, particularly when working with long exposures and natural light.
David’s work spans seascapes, landscapes, wildlife, and the occasional portrait, all shaped by a deep connection to place and a respect for the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. Much of the inspiration comes from simply being there—watching the weather roll through, listening to the sea, and letting time do its work.
This is photography from the edge—honest, unhurried, and rooted in Shetland.
